Well, I can see their line of thinking: It worked once, so let’s do it again. So lame.

According to the FBI, a man was recently arrested at a movie theater with at least one firearm, body armor, and what the FBI is describing as “fake CIA” credentials.

The 24 year old, Cassidy Delavergne, was arrested at a Michigan movie theater. FBI spokesman Simon Shaykhet says police were called to the Trillium Theater in Grand Blanc Township near Flint on around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday after someone noticed the bulky vest and gun.

Delavergne was watching a movie when police approached him. According to investigators, Delavergne flashed a fake Central Intelligence Agency identification badge and told the officers, according to the police, that he was a “federal agent.”

Suspicious of his story, police arrested Delavergne and found he was wearing body armor and carrying a Glock, 9 mm pistol with 34 rounds of ammunition, utilizing the Glock 18 extended capacity magazine, designed for the highly restricted fully automatic model 18 pistol, generally illegal for civilian purchase. It is unclear whether Delavergne was carrying the model 18 or the semi-automatic model 17 version with the model 18 magazine.

Federal agents arrived and searched Delavergne’s car, where they found an additional 111 rounds of ammunition. Shaykhet declined to say whether agents believe Delavergne planned to use his handgun.

A court filing says Delavergne acknowledge the ID was fake and said that he told an agent he displayed the phony ID to minimize concerns about his gun.

Reporter Andrew Keller said right now, Delavergne has – almost incomprehensibly – only been charged with having a CIA identification card.

“Right now, the FBI is not releasing anything about possible motives, but did say Delavergne claims he was wearing the body armor and carrying the gun because he just got off work and did not want to leave them in his car. The FBI also said he claimed to have a concealed weapons permit,” he said.

Delavergne remains in custody while police continue to investigate the situation.

What do you make of the CIA “fake” credentials and why this guy would have been outfitted in such a way, possibly with a restricted Glock 18 and definitely with a Glock 18 magazine, which is neither designed for normal concealed carry, nor is it something that one could realistically conceal.

It seems obvious that he was there to kill, but why then is he only being charged with the credentials when it seems the prosecutor would normally throw the book at someone inducing panic in this way (from real or perceived danger)? Seems there is a lot more to this story than we know yet…
