In the past week or so, I kept seeing feathers and images of feathers and wings—even on the floor at work where there should be no feathers. I was wondering if these sightings would lead somewhere, as after a point it’s no longer a coincidence, and yesterday an interesting thing happened.
About 10:30 a.m. Mica ran to the back door and barked a few times, fixated on something through the slats of the shutters. He only barks when someone is in the yard—almost never. I didn’t see anyone, but then the following registered.
I know. A heron—in the desert? But they do live near here, along the Salt River and in the canyons connecting the four lakes… but for one to grace the shores of our pool was most unexpected. (S)he seemed most at home, walked around the entire pool, scoping a spot for the ideal put-in and then, the inevitable.
I guess since they were here to deliver a message anyway, they may as well enjoy the visit. They flapped their massive wings a little and took the plunge, standing on the top step, and then the beach step.
Not seeing any fish, they had a few sips while I took lots of photos and video, then out they came, leaving funny footprints on the deck and fluffing their feathers.
Just as our mail carrier arrived in the driveway they took their leave—and they didn’t leave any messes—not even a feather.
If one researches Heron/Crane/Egret totems they will find the following. I thought it was too much of a coincidence to be ignored—and I graciously accept the gift delivered by this beautiful creature. Message received. Thank you. ~ BP
The heron is a long legged wading bird. There are about 60 species of heron including several species called egrets. Most egrets have white plumage that is highly prized as ornaments in oriental ceremonies.
Herons are often seen standing motionless, as if in a meditative state, on its long thin legs. This stance symbolizes its ability to maintain balance through proper focus. Its inner foundation is secure although not fixed.
When the heron feeds it stands in water. Its neck is bent in an S shape. The flowing pattern of the letter S reflects the rhythm of this bird. Understanding your personal rhythm and responding to it accordingly is imperative for those with this medicine.
Water is associated with the mysteries of life. It is connected to the emotional body of man. When you see a heron standing in water notice how deep the water is. This depth can symbolize the depth that needs to be explored within self. The deeper you go the more you discover. Whatever is discovered take the time necessary to stand in silent reflection. In this way clarity of understanding is known.
Those with this medicine have strong emotional natures. They feel things deeply and with passion. The challenge here is to keep passionate thoughts and feelings under control in order to maintain a balanced emotional nature. The advantage of this energy indicates the passion and ambition needed to complete tasks and accomplish goals.
Herons are seldom seen flocking together. They are solitary birds that enjoy their own company. Heron medicine people are independent and willing to make changes when the need arises. They do not need a lot of people in their lives. This can sometimes lead to challenges in personal relationships especially if the other person has needs that require constant attention. Maintaining some type of social interaction and not withdrawing from others completely is helpful.
Herons stand out in their uniqueness and know how to take advantage of things and events for their own benefit. By observing the heron, its actions and its lack of action we learn how to perfect out personal flight through life. Herons hold a silent power, their grace, agility and majestic presence reflect balance. This balance is the gift they offer to all who choose to receive it.

Thanks for the update in Tampa and Orlando. Such craziness! And I agree wholeheartedly… we would be foolish NOT to heed the many warnings and stock up on food, cash, gas and essentials. There’s no telling what may happen where, or when. Let’s mitigate the inconvenience as much as possible and help care for those who have no idea what’s going on.
How absolutely delightful – what a blessing BP…..
Feathers (or birds) are – you’re quite correct – a communications tool from the other side. I work with the Archangels and oftentimes when I need an answer I will find a feather on the doorstep to our house! After all we are spiritual beings having a human experience! If we ask even in mind – we shall be given an answer!
Hi,
I also see huge amounts of mainly stylo ailes here in Sweden (is that the correct term? I mean the big feathers on the wings/tail), but I have another take on it…
I often help animals (birds, cats a.s.o). Last december I took a crow to the bird station. The crow had lost all his/her stylo ailes, and couldn´t fly.
They told me at the bird station that they had 5-6 of these birds in care, and that they did not understand the cause to this. They had sent bloodsamples to the laboratory, and the answer from the laboratory was “the birds had eaten the wrong kind of food”, which the head of the bird station did not believe.
Now, we all know that our animals/insects are dying due to pollution (chemtrails, aluminum a.s.o). Personally I believe that the birds lose their feathers due to slow poisoning.
Poor birdies… All life on this planet is suffering, but not for long.
Amazing story of your heron visit (spirit guide) Molly! Here in Pennsylvania we live on the Delaware and spot heron on occasion
fishing on the eddy. Inland a little ways they have a nesting spot in the tall trees. The nest are huge (as you can imagine) and there are scores of nests which are a sight to see!
My gf also has been having many feathers show up near her in very strange places and here is what she found out! It’s really cool. Good for you Mol. http://www.wishingmoon.com/feathers-appear-when-angels-are-near-what-is-the-meaning-of-finding-feathers/
Thanks, DD. I have a pseudo feather collection that grew out of all our walks in the desert and finding them in our yard, too, since we provide water to the wildlife. Cheap thrills.
Herons, a few at a time, appear here in New Orleans on odd occasions, miles from their usual watery roosts, the nearest being a mile or so away.
They are indeed elegant birds and you have been blessed to have one so impressive in appearance come your way.
Interesting BP,
I follow Dante closely and the other morning, walked into the kitchen to find a feather on the kitchen bench. Not that there are any birds in the house. Didn’t think anything else of it until now.
Interesting times, regards AL
You’ve been blessed! It probably showed up to reassure you that you’re on the right track.

Beautiful, Kitsy, thanks. Great story.
What a beautiful gift! Unfortunately, the last time a heron visited my pond, he or she ate most of my beautiful goldfish. 🙁 Ah well, my and my fish’s misfortune was his buffet dinner.
It’s amazing what nature can share with us if we only pause long enough to listen–and ponder.
With Love,
Stargazer
