New Format at Starship Earth: The Big Picture Blog [video]

Okay, I guess we need to go over some of the changes here as they’re confusing readers.

For those unaware, we had a tremendous, unexpected spike in blog traffic last week when people shared the post about Clinton’s Voter Expansion Official, Seth Rich, who died from the ROTA-virus. (Rapid Onset Targeted Assassination) The Sorcha Faal version of that story with additional details about the apprehension of Clinton’s “hit team” by the FBI was the culprit, with 11,655 hits on Thursday.

It more than doubled the site’s normal traffic for the day and the hosting company shut down the blog because they say we were hogging resources over an extended period, which damages their server. (their idea of “extended” is several hours)

So, we had to make some changes to the blog layout to steer traffic so this doesn’t happen again.

I’m sorry if the new landing page isn’t what you’d like, but we felt the need to go this route. It features the most recent posts, so you can see what you missed since the last visit.

It’s not hard to navigate, it’s just different.

There are hyperlinks on the new landing page to either of two other pages on the site, and you can bookmark the page you want to land on to make that easier in the future if you so choose.

The link to ‘Controversial Posts’ lists the ones that have been most popular.

The link to ‘Home Page’ is where you used to land, with the “Off-Topic Wanderers'” sticky post at the top, and newest articles looking exactly as they did before, below that.

We didn’t have this traffic problem when we were on WordPress.com, but I had to ask for financial assistance at that time and I really don’t want to do that. I prefer to be self-sufficient. Some of our readers can barely afford Internet, never mind donations.

However, I want to help Patrick, our webmaster because he’s had a rough time in so many ways these past few years and all donations that come in go to him. He removed the Donation Button but people are asking for it because they want to express their appreciation for his work to get us back up and running smoothly, so I had him put it back on the sidebar. You may use that whenever you wish, with deep gratitude from Patrick, who always drops what he’s doing and fixes whatever the techno-weenie captain needs help with.

With our own .com website we can have Google Adsense pay the bills. It’s not an ideal solution, as I fervently detest ads, but that’s what seemed the best choice at the time.

From my perspective, the biggest problem with the ads is that they’re so “in-my-face”. That is due to the narrow format used in the “dusk to dawn” WordPress theme, which I love and don’t want to change.

The downside to being financially self-sufficient is that we have a limited amount of resources with the web host, and if we exceed our allowed usage on their server, they shut us down.

The only other option is to get a dedicated server, which costs an arm and a leg and I’d don’t want to spend my time on “fund-raising drives” or be in debt. I like this to be a “free service”. You’ve seen those websites where they’re always telling you how many thousands of dollars in debt they are for the year. I’m not going there.

Right now, the advertising pays the bills for the website and fortunately I don’t often have to hire Patrick to make fixes for us, but if the craziness on the planet continues to ramp up and blog hits exceed our allowable parameters we could get shut down again. Just warning you. It’s not an attack by the cabal. We’re not dangerous. We’re harmless entertainment.

And then there are the times when I lose my Internet and just can’t easily post because I have to go into town to Starbucks to get WiFi and mess around with my iPad. So no worries. Anticipate the best and one day soon we’ll be enjoying 30th century technology and will no longer have these absurd communication challenges. In fact soon, there probably won’t even be a need for this blog—but we’ll adapt to current conditions.

Better days are ahead. AMAZING days, in fact.

Thank you all for your many contributions of many kinds, and thank you for flying with Starship Earth.

We hope you will enjoy our featured on-board entertainment.

As you were. Captain out.Ā  ~ BP
