Taking Control of our Pets’ Health the Natural Way

Eli on his poolside walkabout – 8 weeks

This will be quick and dirty—no fluff. I am speaking about dogs, because that is where my recent experience lies. Cat owners may also find good advice and products at the following links, though. Do your own research, and hopefully these guidelines will be valuable.

For those who want to feed their dog kibble, the holistic vet and nutritional specialist I visited says make sure it’s “baked”. Other heat processing destroys the nutritional value of the food and can aggravate health conditions. She provided the following list of 2022 companies who make baked kibble. I would say unless the bag states it’s baked, it is probably extruded which may lead to inflammatory conditions which are the main culprit in so many problems for Humans and animals.

Baked Kibble Brands

Lotus Oven Baked Dry Food [she fed these to Eli to keep him occupied while she checked him over and he loved them]

Stella & Chewy’s

I and Love and You, Baked & Saucy Beef & Sweet Potatoes

Carna4

Honest Kitchen [Eli loves the raw, freeze-dried version we have]

Jiminy’s Good Grub

Yumwoof Perfect Kibble

Evolve Baked, small batch

AvoDerm Oven-Baked Original Formula

Wellness TruFood Baked Blend

Darford Zero G Oven Baked Kibble

Tiki – for small dogs and cats

The Dr. Marty puppy food I got for Eli is not on her list because it is raw, freeze-dried but she did approve it after testing the response from Eli’s body.

She spent a full hour evaluating Eli and preparing the things we would need like another course of dewormer, along with a folder of information.

She did a lot of what appeared to be dowsing-type testing on Eli with a wand or rod to see what allergies or underlying health conditions might be present and for nutritional supplements his body wanted and we came away with two. We go back in two weeks with hopefully much increased weight and at that time will get the fur analysis.

She says the main draw for vaccines is the fact that it’s difficult to get along in a community without them as boarding, live training classes, grooming, etc. usually demand vaccinated pets so if you have to do any of that and don’t have family or friends to look after your dog, it puts you between a rock and a hard place. She also said that in one year you can titer and probably not need to revaccinate but check to see if immunity remains before deciding.

The vet gave us a brochure for Chi Dog Food Therapy about food for literal therapy of problems the body may be having. It’s interesting reading and you can learn more at www.chidog.com.

We also have a brochure for Lotus raw food for dogs and cats. LotusPetFoods.com

We came away with nutritional supplements from Standard Process for dogs and cats. You can learn more at www.StandardProcess.com.

She gave us a brochure for a pet food company also recommended by Dr. Karen Becker, an associate of Dr. Joseph Mercola who recommends we consider products from Raised Right Pets, which is Human-grade pet food for dogs and cats. They have two puppy blends.

By nourishing animals the way nature intended, we reduce metabolic stress, which in turn reduces the incidence and expression of metabolic diseases, including type-2 diabetes, obesity and many types of cancer.  ~ Dr. Karen Becker\

Additional advice from our vet said to add in all sorts of our food for a well-balanced diet, so where one or two nutritional sources may fall short, others can fill the gaps. Add fruit, vegetables, greens and seaweed, cottage cheese, eggs, and meats, fish, etc. she said. If the veggies come out the way they went in, we should steam them lightly to break down the cellulose binders so the animal can digest them.

So we can see how animals fed what their Humans eat are usually fairly healthy. We have been conditioned to believe that Human food is inadequate for pets and they need their own, name-brand pet food provided by the controllers’ cronies at big pet food companies.

We never knew they were poisoning our pets all that time but now that we know, we need to alter our thinking and how we feed our fur babies.

Another interesting thing the vet recommended is to create a sort of “jungle gym” for Eli in the yard for him to climb on to simulate rough-housing with his litter mates which he cannot do and so is losing out on agility training, climbing, etc. which puppies in a natural environment or with a playmate would normally get. Rocks, boulders, piles of firewood, a ball hanging by a rope from a tree branch, things to get the puppies to run, jump, tumble, etc. Eli may be tiny at 7. 5 lb. but he is mighty. He leaped off the sofa twice and rolls off his beds all the time, does summersaults, climbs a big staircase—crazy little devil.

Here is a makeshift jungle gym I put together for Eli in 5 minutes just from things I could find around the yard until Dad gets back and can do a better one. He actually used it! As you can see there’s not a lot to it, it’s not extreme, just some interesting things at different levels for him to explore and he can chew on the wood.

I did notice that Mica, since he didn’t have the above and no friends or siblings to play with, was kind of clumsy. He did love to run, however, and adored long hikes, walking every day and was a strong swimmer. He couldn’t often catch anything in his mouth like a cookie if you tossed it, or jump for a frisbee because he had no coordination or experience. Kind of sad. Hopefully we can enrich Eli’s environment to bridge these gaps.

That’s it for now. Hope it helps people decide what kind of food to give their pets. It’s so important.  ~  BP
